Description
There is a moment, somewhere on Upper Clear Creek Road, when the cottonwoods open up and the Bighorn Mountains take the entire western sky. You will slow down without deciding to. Everybody does.
The Bunkhouse is what sits waiting at the end of that drive.
It is the loft above the shop — a wide, open upstairs room with its own private entrance on the road side of the property. You do not cross the footbridge to get here. You park, you climb your own stairs, you close your own door. Nobody's schedule but yours.
Inside, the space is honest and generous. A queen bed for the two of you. Two sets of bunks — four twins — for the kids, the hunting partners, the cousins, whoever came along. A full bathroom with a real shower, so nobody is negotiating over hot water. A kitchenette with a fridge, microwave, coffee maker, and prep space for the meals that do not need a whole kitchen. And a desk by the window with Starlink WiFi strong enough to take the call you could not get out of.
Then there is the balcony.
You will end up out there more than you plan to. Morning coffee while the light comes down off the Bighorns. Late afternoon when the mule deer walk the yard like they own it, which — in fairness — they did first. Evening, when Clear Creek is the only sound and the sky over Johnson County does the thing that Wyoming skies do.
Clear Creek runs right out front, and it is fishable. Bring a rod, buy a Wyoming license, and cast for trout without getting in a vehicle. Behind the property, the land opens into BLM public walk-in territory — thousands of acres where you can hike, glass for elk and deer, or just stand in the sort of quiet that recalibrates a person.
Buffalo is five minutes down the road. A town of about 4,500 with a historic Main Street, the Occidental Hotel, locally owned shops, and restaurants serving beef from ranches you passed on the way in. Over twenty miles of the Clear Creek Trail System connect through town. Crazy Woman Canyon, Lake DeSmet, and the Cloud Peak Skyway are all a short drive. Bighorn National Forest — 1.1 million acres of it — begins fifteen minutes west on US-16. Sheridan is thirty-five minutes north.
The Bunkhouse suits a specific kind of trip well: families who want room for four kids and a real bed for the adults, hunting parties who keep early hours, couples who want a base camp instead of a hotel room, remote workers who want a desk with a mountain in it, and anyone who would rather have their own door than share a hallway.
It is not a large space and it does not pretend to be. It is a well-made room in an extraordinary place, priced so you can afford to stay longer.
Wyo Stays manages this property the way we manage all of them — real people, one message away, who know this land and this town. Send us a note before you book if you have questions about the creek, the season, or what is worth doing while you are here. We answer fast, and we actually know the answers.

The space
You will hear Clear Creek before you see anything else. That is the first thing this place gives you, and it does not stop giving it the entire time you are here.
The Bunkhouse is the loft above the shop, on the road side of the creek. That detail matters more than it sounds like it should: you do not cross the footbridge to reach it. You pull in, park, and take your own private stairway up to your own private door. No shared entry. No coordinating with anyone. If you want to leave at 4 a.m. for a hunt or roll in at midnight from dinner in Buffalo, nobody knows and nobody cares.
Upstairs, the room opens up. Wide, warm, and built for a group that actually likes each other but still wants a little space. Windows on the mountain side. Light that changes all day and is worth watching.

OUTSIDE YOUR DOOR
- Clear Creek - fishable trout water running right out front (valid Wyoming fishing license required). Wadeable in summer and fall. Spring runoff, April through June, runs high and fast - beautiful to watch, and a reason to keep children close.
- BLM public walk-in land directly behind the property - thousands of acres open to hiking, wildlife glassing, and standing still.
- Free parking on premises for multiple vehicles.
- Wildlife, constantly. A resident rock chuck has claimed the area near the porch. Mule deer cross the yard mornings and evenings. Wild turkeys use the footbridge like it belongs to them. Bald eagles circle overhead often enough that you will stop pointing them out by day two. This is working Wyoming land - the wildlife is a neighbor, not a nuisance, and it is one of the best parts of being here.

A NOTE ON THE STAIRS
The Bunkhouse is a second-floor space reached by an exterior staircase. There is a stair lift installed on the stairway, but we do not represent this unit as accessible - the space, the bathroom, and the doorways were not built to accessibility standards. If anyone in your group has mobility considerations, message us before booking and we will tell you honestly whether this is the right fit or whether the main cabin serves you better.

Guest access
The Bunkhouse is entirely yours for your stay - the loft, the full bathroom, the kitchenette, the balcony, and your own private exterior entrance. No shared interior space, no other guests coming through.
You reach it from the road side of the property. You do not cross the footbridge. Park in the drive, take the stairway up, and let yourself in with a smart keyless lock. Your unique code arrives before you get here, so you can check in whenever you land - no key handoff, no waiting on anyone.
Outside, you are welcome to use the creek frontage, the outdoor spaces, and the BLM public land behind the property. Fish Clear Creek with a valid Wyoming license. Walk out onto public rangeland. Sit outside as long as you want.
The main log cabin across the footbridge is a separate rental and may be occupied by other guests during your stay. Please treat that side of the creek as private. If the whole property is what you wanted, message us - we also rent the cabin and the entire estate together, and booking the whole place usually costs less than you'd expect.
Wyo Stays support is real and responsive throughout your stay. Not a call center. Not a bot. People who know this property, this creek, and this town. One message away, always.
Other things to note
This is a bunkhouse loft, and we describe it that way on purpose. It is one open upstairs room with a queen bed and two bunk sets, a full bathroom, and a kitchenette. It is comfortable, clean, well-maintained, and honest about what it is. If you are looking for a suite with separate bedrooms, the main log cabin across the creek is the better fit - message us and we will get you into the right one.
The kitchenette is a kitchenette. Refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, kettle, toaster, and prep space with dishes and basic cookware. There is no oven or full range in this unit. Plenty for breakfasts, lunches, reheating, and simple dinners - and Buffalo has real restaurants five minutes away.
Access is by an exterior staircase to the second floor. A stair lift is installed on the stairway, but this unit is not represented as accessible. The bathroom, doorways, and layout do not meet accessibility standards. If mobility is a factor for anyone in your group, message us first and we will give you a straight answer.
Wildlife is a feature here, not a problem. Deer, turkeys, rock chucks, and eagles are regular. The creek and the BLM land behind the property form a natural corridor. It is one of the best parts of staying here - and it also means this is not a sealed, sterile environment. If that is what you want, this is not your property.
Creek levels change with the season. Spring runoff, roughly April through June, makes Clear Creek high and fast. Summer and fall are calm and wadeable. Always supervise children near the water.
BLM land behind the property is public walk-in land. You are free to hike and explore. Know your surroundings, carry water, and be aware that this is open country with real weather.
Fishing requires a valid Wyoming fishing license. They are easy to get online or in Buffalo, and we are happy to point you to the right one.
Starlink covers the property. Cell signal is generally reliable but can be uneven - the WiFi is the dependable connection.
Winter here is spectacular and underrated. Snow on the Bighorns, ice along the creek edges, absolute silence, and night skies that make people quiet. Winter tires or AWD recommended November through March.
The main cabin across the footbridge is a separate rental and may have other guests. Please respect that side of the creek. If you would rather have the entire property, we rent it as a whole - ask us for the combined rate. It is usually a better deal than people expect.
We have poured real attention into this space over the last year - the linens, the mattresses, the WiFi, the lighting, the little things guests told us mattered. If something is not right while you are here, tell us immediately. We fix things fast, and we would much rather hear it from you during the stay than read it afterward.
